How I lost 40 pounds in 118 days via treadmill and change of diet.

 

I started my journey at 209 pounds and about 6 foot 1 inches tall. My goal was to lose 25 pounds.  My wife and I rejoined the Aggieland Fitness Dome on December 30, 2015.  We started working out together the next day on December 31, 2015.

 

It would have been easy to wait until January 1st or even January 2nd but there no time like the present to start getting in shape.  That very first day I walked for 4 miles on my favorite Treadmill #20 which I like to call ole (tread)MILLY.  Being a big Disney fan I set a goal to walk the mileage it would take to travel from College Station to Walt Disney World in Florida (approximately 1050) in a year (about 3 miles a day).

 

In order to track my progress, I started a spreadsheet with the following information.  Date, miles walked that day, and Yearly Total.  The first month I averaged 4 miles a day.  The maximum I walked in one day (01/23/2016) was 10 miles and the minimum I walk in January on a day was 2 miles.

 

By the end of January I had lost 13 pounds and now weighed 196 pounds by basically walking everyday.

The only other thing I did in January was to give up Soft Drinks and Sweet Tea.  I never was a big fan of diet drinks so I would drink regular sodas and sweet tea.  I replaced the high calorie drinks with flavored water Propel and Nestle Splash.

 

On February 1, I started the Naturally Thin program through work.  It emphasizes it’s not what you eat but when and how you eat. With continued walking and the Naturally Thin program I hit the milestone mark of a 40 pound weight lost on April 26, 2016. On that date, I had walked a total of 711 miles or an average of a little over 6 miles a day.

 

I have reach the weight I am happy with, and I plan to soon focus on the weight training and less on the cardio exercising.

 

The good news is I have reached my yearly goal of 1050 miles in less than six months.
